Chief G. Crawford Wiestling’s fire service and public safety career extends over 50 years.


He has worked and been involved in virtually every fire service position, ranging from volunteer firefighter, career firefighter, assistant fire chief, and fire chief. Wiestling has held positions in law enforcement as constable and deputy sheriff, and served as director of public safety for the City of Lock Haven, Pa. He also served as civil defense director in Franklin County, Pa.


Chief Wiestling was one of the founders of the Franklin County Fire Chiefs Association and served as its first chairman. During his tenure as county civil defense director, he was responsible for creating the county communication center (PSAP), and also assisted several other counties to improve or create county communication centers.


Wiestling has been actively involved in training programs throughout the country. As chief, he taught programs in fire department management, vehicle rescue and highway emergency response procedures at the local, regional, and state level. He has also taught courses to the fire service on fire investigation, and to the insurance industry through a nationwide training program sponsored by the industry.


He has instructed at several International Association of Arson Investigators (IAAI) chapter seminars and is currently on the training committee for the IAAI annual Minnesota Fire & Arson Conference.


Wiestling serves as awards committee chairman for the Yvorra Leadership Foundation, a major nonprofit foundation designed to promote leadership in the fire service and emergency medical services communities.


He is also a state advocate for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Everyone Goes Home Program.
